PRIDE Christmas Tree Scarf Pre-order 2021

Posted by Katharine Robinson on

[Edit: This pre-order has now closed, but Pride Christmas Tree Scarves are available in the shop for Christmas 2021 here.]

Every year I sell hand-knitted Christmas tree scarf decorations.

Popular tree scarf designs have included Doctor Who scarves, Hogwarts house scarves (although I don’t make these any more due to the terrible behaviour of you-know-who), and Pride flag inspired colours.

Because a tree scarf takes me two weeks to hand knit (usually while I’m watching TV in the evenings), I make them to order. This means there’s a very limited number I can offer each year.

The earliest point in the year a customer ever enquired about a tree scarf was August, back in 2019. I usually wait until then to list my tree scarves anyway because Etsy’s listings last 4 months.

I’ve been inspired by the Indie Roller community to try something different in 2021.

This year I want to try a pre-order for the Pride scarves during June, which is Pride Month. This will give me more time to make more tree-scarves for more people!

Making the Pride designs started out as a way to include friends in what I was making and then I made more based on what my customers wanted. So far I’ve made a Philladelphia Rainbow, a Trans Pride, and an Intersex Pride design.

This year I want to include more people and identities, so I’ve prototyped designs based on the flags for Asexual, Bisexual and Nonbinary Pride. I’m also offering to make scarves based on any Pride flag (assuming I can figure out how to make it work and get appropriate yarn).

I want my tree scarves to advance the cause of Pride too. With that in mind, I’ll be donating 100% of profits from this pre-order to Switchboard LGBT+, the helpline based in London.

The pre-order will open on Friday 28th May, to coincide with the #IndieRollerFriYay launch event, and run until the end of June (or until all my knitting time slots are filled).

How will the Pre-order work?

The pre-order opens on 28th May at 9am BST (UK time) and will stay open throughout June, or until I have filled all my knitting slots, whichever happens sooner.

I’d recommend signing up for my newsletter if you want a reminder on the day and a cheeky discount code.

Your orders will be shipped as soon as they are ready and in the order I received them.

All orders will ship on or before 1st November 2021. Once you have ordered I will give you a clearer estimated dispatch date for your tree scarf.

What if I want a tree scarf based on a pride flag not listed here?

No problem. I want to knit it for you. I’ve only put the tree scarves I have pictures of in the listing in my shop, so that you can see what you are getting, but I want to offer ALL. THE. SCARVES.

Ping me a message via email, or Instagram and we’ll get it figured out.

Which fibre should I choose?

This year I’m offering Christmas tree scarves in acrylic or wool.

Acrylic is the cheaper option. It does mean putting more plastic out into the world, but it also means it’s vegan. Acrylic is available in a staggering variety of vibrant colours, and it will pretty much last forever. You could probably chuck it in the washing machine too - if something strange happened to your Christmas tree and the scarf needed a wash. £58.50

Wool is a bit more expensive and can be trickier to find in the exact colours we want. Wool comes from animals, in this case a sheep, so it’s not vegan. It is a natural fibre so will biodegrade if you decide you’re done with your decoration and throw it away. It will also be recyclable, if you wanted to take it apart and spin/knit it into something new. £67.50

It’s up to you which fibre to choose. The tree scarves pictured in this post are all knitted with acrylic yarn.

Remember, every order placed via the Woolly Rebellion shop plants a tree. 🌱
